Angelo first came to Cebu in the 1990s. With his business partner Miranda Konstantinidou, he searched for the ideal place to produce high-quality costume jewelry. Eventually, in 1999, they singled out Cebu at Mactan Export Processing Zone as their base for manufacturing and have since stayed there, where they developed collections for their sought-after pieces under the brand name Konplott.

How long have you been in Cebu, and what country did you come from previously?
I’m from Germany, and I’ve been coming to Cebu for 26 years now—sometimes just for a few days, other times for several months at a time.
Where is the ideal place to stay when in Cebu?
I prefer to stay in the Marco Polo Hotel mainly because of its convenience.
Where can we find you on weekends or in your leisure time, and why?
I mostly stay in Cebu City on weekends to catch up with friends. For short getaways, I love heading up to the north of Cebu. And after 18 years, I still have to return to Siargao—it’s definitely on my list!
Do you have a favorite Filipino dish that is not available in your home country?
Absolutely. I love kilawing tangigue and, of course, pochero.

Do you grocery shop? If yes, what is on your staple list?
Yes, I do! I’m always excited when I find a big lapu-lapu—that’s definitely a favorite.

What is your go-to restaurant, and why?
I often find myself at Asmara—I really enjoy the crowd there. But I also like the variety of restaurants in Crossroads. There’s a lot to choose from. And I have a soft spot for laid-back barbecue places too.
