Cebu’s iconic lechon returns to the spotlight as the Cebu Lechon Festival marks its 10th year at The Mactan Newtown, Megaworld’s township in Lapu-Lapu City. Running from August 6 to 31, the celebration brings together hometown roasting traditions, Cebuano culinary talent, and festive experiences centered on one of the province’s most celebrated dishes.

An annual initiative of The Mactan Newtown in partnership with the Provincial Government of Cebu, the festival continues to promote Cebu lechon while giving greater recognition to the local lechoneros, family recipes, and communities that have shaped its place in Cebuano culture.

Hometown Lechon Traditions from Across Cebu

At the heart of the festival is the Great Cebu Lechon Market at the Mactan Alfresco, where 10 cities and municipalities from across Cebu will offer their signature roasts through dedicated selling booths from August 7 to 9.

Participating localities include Barili, Medellin, Alcoy, Argao, Carcar City, Dalaguete, Dumanjug, Talisay City, Consolacion, and Samboan, with Lapu-Lapu City serving as host.

From distinct seasonings and stuffings to roasting techniques passed down through families and communities, each locality will showcase how Cebu’s shared lechon tradition takes on its own hometown flavor and character. The market gives guests a rare opportunity to taste and discover Cebu’s diverse lechon traditions in one destination.

Celebrating Cebuano Culinary Talent

The festival officially opens on August 7 with Cebu’s Best Lechonero, a competition celebrating the local pitmasters whose mastery of seasoning, fire, timing, and roasting remains a source of pride among Cebuano communities.

On August 8, the Sugbuanon Paksiw Wars will feature different interpretations of the well-loved Cebuano dish, followed by the Lechon Chef Cook-Off, a live culinary face-off between chefs from Savoy Hotel and Mercure Hotel Cebu.

The Culinary Showdown on August 9 will bring together professional and aspiring chefs, and other culinary talents to create original dishes inspired by lechon, highlighting how Cebu’s signature roast continues to inspire both traditional and contemporary flavors.

Young guests can also join Paint My Lechon from August 7 to 9, where they can paint and personalize their own mini lechon with a minimum spend of ₱1,500 at participating establishments in The Mactan Newtown.

On August 9, guests can cheer on participants during the Lechon Eating Competition before the main festival weekend concludes with the Lechon Fest Street Party, featuring DJ Matt Balili and DJ Renzo. The evening will serve as a lively post-race celebration for IRONMAN 70.3 athletes, supporters, locals, and festivalgoers.

Meanwhile, the Lechon Festival Food Fair will run from August 6 to 31 along Mactan Newtown Road, offering local delicacies and regional specialties throughout the month.

Now in its 10th year, the Cebu Lechon Festival continues to place Cebu’s beloved roast and the people behind it at the center of the celebration. Through every hometown recipe, roasting tradition, and creative interpretation, the festival invites locals and visitors to experience the flavors, craftsmanship, and community pride that make Cebu lechon truly its own.
