Some walls are simply meant to divide spaces; this one was made to bring people together.
At Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown, a once blank wall has become an evolving canvas of creativity, connection, and shared experiences. Through its new doodle wall, guests are invited to pick up a marker, add a splash of color, and become part of a growing community artwork. What appears at first glance to be a simple coloring activity quickly reveals itself as something much more meaningful.

The installation brings to life Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown's Color Your Experience philosophy. Just as color shapes the way we perceive the world, the hotel believes that every guest has the power to shape their own journey through the memories they create, the people they meet, and the moments they choose to embrace. In this sense, the hotel becomes a canvas, while every stay becomes a unique expression of experience.
“At Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown, we believe hospitality is about creating opportunities for meaningful experiences," said Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown General Manager Josef Victor Chiongbian.” The doodle wall encourages guests to slow down, express themselves, and connect with others in a simple yet memorable way.

The artwork was illustrated by Danielle Nicolas Babor, a 3rd year architecture student from Cebu Institute of Technology – University (CIT-U). It is deeply inspired by the people, stories, and experiences that define the hotel. Illustrated in a playful, cartoon style are familiar faces from the Savoy team, along with Savvy, the hotel’s beloved dog, alongside visual elements drawn from past hotel events, celebrations, and guest experiences. The setting itself is anchored in The Mactan Newtown, bringing together the location, the people, and the memories that continue to shape the property’s identity.
Rather than serving as a static illustration, the artwork was intentionally designed as a living canvas that reflects the hotel’s personality and continues to evolve through guest participation.
Since its installation, the doodle wall has attracted guests of all ages and nationalities. Families gather to color together, children fill spaces with imagination, and travelers leave messages, drawings, and signatures in different languages.
Each contribution tells a story.
Together, these individual expressions have transformed the wall into a visual reflection of the diverse people who pass through Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown. What began as an illustration has become a living collection of memories—created not by a single artist, but by an entire community.

“When I created the illustration, I imagined guests interacting with it, but seeing people actually contribute their own colors, drawings, and messages has been incredibly rewarding,” shared Babor. “The wall keeps changing every day, and that's what makes it special.” There is something remarkable about watching strangers create something together.
Guests may arrive from different countries, speak different languages, and come from different walks of life, yet in front of the doodle wall, those differences seem to fade. The act of coloring becomes a shared experience. It has become a universal language that encourages participation, creativity, and connection.
In many ways, the installation embodies what hospitality is ultimately about: bringing people together.
Beyond comfortable accommodations and thoughtful amenities, Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown seeks to create moments that guests remember long after their stay. This simple doodle wall serves as a colorful reminder that meaningful experiences are often created through simple interactions and shared moments.
As more guests leave their mark, the artwork continues to evolve one color, one message, and one memory at a time.
After all, some walls are simply meant to bring people together.
