Megaworld once again welcomed thousands of athletes to Lapu-Lapu City for the recently concluded Ironman 70.3 on August 10, 2025, gathering triathletes from across the country and around the world.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Mactan Newtown township served as the official venue for the prestigious event, transforming into a lively race arena. Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown continued as the official hotel partner, offering athletes and guests convenience and warm Cebuano hospitality.

The week-long celebration kicked off with a press conference at Belmont Hotel Mactan on August 8, attended by Ironman professional athletes and members of the media. It was followed by the highly anticipated race day on August 10.

The Mactan Newtown Beach was the stage for the race’s start, where thousands of competitors took on the swim leg against the scenic backdrop of Mactan’s coastline. The event was graced by Cleofe Albiso, Managing Director of Megaworld Hotels & Resorts, alongside Cebu Provincial Governor Pamela Baricuatro, Congressman Junard “Ahong” Chan, and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Cindi King-Chan, all of whom expressed their encouragement and support for the athletes.

“Standing here at the frontline, you are already winners. Your Cebuano followers will be at the sidelines, cheering you on,” said Managing Director Albiso, showing her support for the athletes and the community behind them.

Athletes faced a challenging 1.9 km swim course at Mactan Newtown Beach, followed by a 90 km bike course along the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) and a 21 km run course before finally crossing the finish line back in the township. Australia’s Josh Ferris won the men’s professional title in 3:49:11, and New Zealand’s Amelia Watkinson won the women’s division in 4:14:22.

In the evening, athletes and visitors came together for a victory party, enjoying street eats, live beats, and cold beer at the drop-off area of Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown—the perfect way to cap off the day’s events.
