Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan grounds its green initiatives in sustainability and mindful hospitality.

At Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan, sustainability is more than a buzzword—it’s a philosophy rooted in respect for the environment and care for the community it sustains. Beyond conserving resources and reducing waste, the resort embraces a long-term vision: nurturing the land so it can continue to nourish future generations.

Since 2022, the resort has cultivated fresh produce on its grounds as part of its sustainability program. This October, it unveiled the Chef’s Garden, a lush enclave across from Aum Spa. More than a source of herbs, fruits, and vegetables, the garden is a living symbol of Crimson’s commitment to mindful hospitality and responsible tourism.

“The Chef’s Garden represents the essence of what it means to be The Kind Host,” shares Mia Singson-Leon, General Manager of Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan. “It reflects our genuine care not only for our guests, but for our colleagues, community, and the environment that sustains us. Every initiative, no matter how small, contributes to a kinder, more sustainable future.”

Under the guidance of in-house horticulturist Rowena Carpio, the garden flourishes with organic bount —vegetables, fruits, herbs, and spices—that make their way directly to guest tables at the resort’s restaurants, including Enye by Chele Gonzalez, Aka, Azure Beach Club, and Saffron Café. Apart from providing guests with the freshest produce, this practice also saves the resort over P500,000 annually.

“The Chef’s Garden is about giving back to the earth, to our guests, and to the community,” Rowena explains. “We nurture each plant with care and purpose, knowing it contributes to something bigger and reaches the hearts of those we serve.”

The garden is a cornerstone of Crimson’s circular sustainability program, The Kind Host. Kitchen scraps are transformed into nutrient-rich compost, closing the loop and ensuring that every dish served is part of a larger eco-conscious cycle.

Looking ahead, Crimson plans to open the garden to guests, students, and community members for immersive, hands-on experiences. These workshops will highlight eco-friendly practices and sustainable gardening, reinforcing the resort’s role as both host and steward of the environment.

For those who wish to take a piece of the garden home, vermi-enriched compost, spiced vinegar, fruit jams, and other artisanal products are available for purchase. Whether enjoyed on-site or brought back as a thoughtful souvenir, each item carries the spirit of sustainability and care.

On your next visit to Crimson Mactan, step into the Chef’s Garden—where mindful hospitality blooms, and every harvest tells a story of giving back.
